28 Channel Soundinstallation
Duration: 1.000.000 Years
237 explores time spans, phenomena, and hyperobjects that elude our perception, lifespan, and imagination.
Hyperobjects, a term coined by Timothy Morton, describe things that exceed our human scale in their temporal and spatial dimensions, consisting of numerous individual factors, straining our concept of what a thing is. Global warming and radioactive decay processes spanning millions of years are two examples.
If we were able to zoom out far enough for all the events involved to come into our field of view, we could perceive them as traces of frozen movements – an object that permeates, absorbs, and becomes part of all the people involved. An object spanning millions of years, extending far beyond our horizon.
A timeline – a 30-meter-long sound sculpture – initiates a discourse on various perceptions of time, the objectification of time, and immersion in relation to human-made phenomena in our environment, such as global warming or radioactive waste.
The installation began on November 19, 2021, at 7:00 PM, and since that moment, the zero point in time, its sonic structure has been continuously changing. 237 independent sound sources are generated live in complex structures at every moment, following different temporal processes. As they decay slowly and continuously, they gradually lose their integrity.
