In the solo exhibition, Hydro Logical, we investigated the intensifying water-related issues on the island of Ibiza. These problems are directly or indirectly linked to the global climate crisis. Similar developments are occurring in coastal regions worldwide. Given that 40% of the world’s population lives in coastal areas, the water issues faced by Ibiza are not isolated but rather indicative of a global challenge.
Through an artistic and musical exploration, the work aims to create a direct and intuitive engagement with the complex feedback networks of hydrological systems. In an immersive room installation, we stage a circular water feedback system that incorporates light projections, shadow play, immersive sound environments, and sculptural elements. This transforms the gallery space into a living hydrological system.
The sounds and light projections are live-generated by a computer-controlled water and irrigation system. All elements—sound, water, and light—are interconnected, influencing and manipulating each other. This intricate technical infrastructure follows a principle of transparency, enabling visitors to trace the complex system. This approach highlights the often unseen water infrastructure and the complexities of hydrology models within the context of the global climate crisis.
